Manufacturer, description and composition

Today, the antibacterial drug Tavanic is original, and is produced by the pharmaceutical corporation SANOFI-AVENTIS Deutschland, GmbH. Tavanic is available in two dosage forms:
one. Tablets, coated.
2 Solution for injection.

Tavanic tablets have a shell, painted in a pale yellow-pink color. The shape of the tablets is oblong, biconvex, on both sides there are separation risks in the form of a groove. Tablets are available in packs of 3, 5, 7 or 10 pieces.

The solution for infusion is sterile and packaged in sealed glass vials. Each vial contains 100 ml of solution, the concentration of the antibiotic in which corresponds to the content of 500 mg of levofloxacin in one tablet. The solution is clear and colored greenish yellow.

Both the tablet and the infusion solution Tavanic contain the antibiotic levofloxacin as the active substance. Tablets contain 250 mg, or 500 mg of levofloxacin. Pill names are often written and spoken as follows – Tavanic 250 or Tavanic 500, where the number next to the name indicates the dosage of levofloxacin. The solution for infusion contains 5 mg of levofloxacin in 1 ml. That is, the whole bottle of Tavanic with a volume of 100 ml contains 500 mg of the antibiotic levofloxacin. This means that the quantitative content of the antibiotic in 100 ml of solution corresponds to that in one Tavanic 500 tablet.

As auxiliary components Tavanic tablets with an active substance content of 250 mg and 500 mg contain the same chemical compounds:

  • hypromellose
  • crospovidone
  • microcrystalline cellulose
  • sodium fumarate
  • macrogol 8000
  • titanium dioxide
  • talc
  • red iron dioxide
  • yellow iron dioxide.

Tavanic infusion solution as an auxiliary component contains the following chemicals:

  • sodium chloride
  • hydrochloric acid
  • sodium hydroxide
  • deionized water.

Spectrum of action and effects

Tavanic is an antibacterial agent from the group system quinolones III generation. All systemic quinolones have a wide spectrum of action, including Tavanic. Levofloxacin in the composition of Tavanic detrimental effect on pathogenic bacteria, disrupting the structure of their genetic material. The consequence of bacterial DNA damage is a strong disturbance in the structure of the cytoplasm and the cell wall of the microorganism. As a result of the destruction of the basic cellular structures of the bacterial cell under the action of Tavanic, the whole microorganism dies.

Tavanic destroys pathogenic microbes that cause various infectious and inflammatory diseases in the organ in which they are colonized. As a result, the antibiotic effectively treats infections of various organs that occur with the development of severe inflammation, which are caused by microbes that are sensitive to the action of the drug. Moreover, Tavanic will cure infectious-inflammatory disease of any organ, if it is caused by bacteria susceptible to the antibiotic.

Since certain types of bacteria often settle in a particular organ, when they enter the human body, they cause an infectious-inflammatory disease of this particular structure. For example, staphylococci have an affinity for the mucous membranes of the respiratory and urinary tract, so these microbes settle in these organs, causing an inflammatory process in them. The converse is also true – inflammation of certain organs is usually caused by a number of bacteria that have tropism for the tissues of this organ. This is the basis of the clinical classification of antibiotics. For example, microbes sensitive to the mucous, respiratory and urinary tracts are sensitive to the antibiotic – then the drug is indicated for the treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases of these organs.

So, Tavanic is effective against bacteria that cause diseases of the respiratory tract, organs of the urinary system, skin and soft tissues (muscles, ligaments, etc.). The drug does not have cross-resistance with other antibiotics. When taken orally or intravenously, detrimental effect on a number of specific microorganisms, which are reflected in the table:

Indications for use

Tavanic tablets and solution for infusion – instructions for use

Tablets and solution for infusion

Tablets take 250 mg or 500 mg 1 – 2 times a day. The antibiotic pill should be swallowed whole, without chewing or cleaving it to pieces. The swallowed pill must be washed down with clean water in a volume of 100 – 200 ml (0.5 – 1 cup). If necessary, the pill can be divided in half, breaking it down by dividing risk.

Tavanic can be taken at any time, regardless of the meal. However, with simultaneous use with antacid agents (Rennie, Gastal, Almagel, Phosphalugel, etc.), iron preparations and Sucralfate, their reception should be spread in time by 2 hours. For example, Tavanic should be taken 2 hours before or after taking an antacid, an iron-containing drug, or Sucralfate.

Tavanic solution is administered intravenously slowly, drip. The introduction of 10 ml of the solution should be made at least 1 hour. If half the bottle is injected, then at least half an hour. Tavanic solution can be stored in a bottle in a lit place for no longer than 3 days. To calculate the required amount of solution, you should know that 1 ml contains 5 mg of tavanic. That is, if you need to enter 125 mg of the drug, then this is equivalent to 125 mg / 5 = 25 ml of solution.

Tavanic can be administered intravenously simultaneously with the following solutions:

  • saline
  • 5% dextrose solution
  • 2.5% ringer’s solution with dextrose
  • nutrient solutions (amino acids, carbohydrates, trace elements).

Tavanic should not be administered simultaneously with heparin and sodium bicarbonate solution.

With a significant improvement in a person’s condition, intravenous administration of tavanic can be replaced by taking tablets in exactly the same dosage. Antibiotic use is stopped 3 days after normalization of body temperature.

During the entire period of use of Tavanic, direct sunlight should be avoided on the skin, and also ultraviolet radiation, including tanning beds, should not be excluded.

The long period of taking Tavanic can cause dysbacteriosis and the addition of a fungal infection. Therefore, it is recommended to take medications containing natural intestinal microflora bacteria (for example, Linex, Bifidumbacterin, etc.) and antifungal agents simultaneously with Tavanic.

Dosage, frequency of administration and duration of therapy with tablets and Tavanic solution are determined by the nature and severity of the disease, as well as the functional activity of the kidneys. There are two options for dosages:
one. For patients with normal renal function with CC more than 50 ml / min.
2 For patients with renal failure with CC less than 50 ml / min.

So, for patients not suffering from impaired renal function, the recommended dosages and courses of use of Tavanic for the treatment of various pathologies are shown in the table:

Patients suffering from renal failure, it is necessary to adjust the dosage depending on the value of QC, determined using the test Reberg. People whose QC is 20-50 ml / min should take tavanic as follows:
one. The first intake of tablets is carried out in the dosage shown in this disease (see table) for people without renal pathology.
2 All subsequent doses of the drug are made in accordance with the schedule shown for this disease (see table), but in half dosage.

If a person suffers from renal failure with a CC in the range of 10 to 20 ml / min, then the scheme of use is the same as in people with a CC of 20 to 50 ml / min, but the course of treatment is extended twice. This is due to the fact that each subsequent dosage can be taken only after 48 hours from the previous one. That is, tablets are taken not once a day, but once every two days.

If a person misses another pill of Tavanic, you need to drink it as soon as possible, and then continue the treatment in accordance with the recommended regimen.

People in old age take Tavanic in usual dosages, if they do not suffer from renal failure. However, tavanic should be used with caution in people prone to cramps. Increased convulsive readiness is available in the following categories of patients:

one. Stroke in the past.
2 Traumatic brain injury in the past.
3 The simultaneous use of Tavanic, Fenbufen and Theophylline.

Children and adolescents should not be given Tavanic, because the drug can disrupt the normal growth of cartilage tissue, which will lead to the destruction of the joints.

With Tavanic treatment, severe diarrhea with blood may develop. In this case, you should stop taking Tavanic immediately and start treatment for the developed pseudomembranous colitis.

When Tavanic is used, tendonitis develops rarely and can cause tendon rupture. Usually this condition develops within 2 days from the start of the drug. If tendinitis developed during therapy with Tavanic, it should be stopped immediately. Also, taking the drug should be discontinued when symptoms of impaired functioning of the nervous system appear (impaired sensitivity, etc.).

People taking tavanic at the same time as sugar-lowering drugs (for example, Insulin, Glibenclamide, etc.) should carefully control the concentration of blood glucose, since there is a possible strong decrease in its level.

Tavanic has a number of side effects that are associated with disruption of the central nervous system, for example, drowsiness, dizziness, etc. Therefore, during the treatment with Tavanic, any activities that are associated with the need to have a high reaction rate and good concentration of attention, including driving a car, should be avoided.

Overdose

Tavanic prostate

For the treatment of bacterial prostatitis Tavanic is an effective tool. The maximum effect will be given by taking the drug in combination with prostate massage, diet and physiotherapy procedures.

Therapy for prostatitis is long-term, and requires taking Tavanic 500 mg (1 tablet 500 ml or two tablets 250 mg) 1 time a day for 4 weeks. Control over the effectiveness of treatment is carried out by analyzing prostate secretion. There is another treatment regimen for prostatitis: 7 days to take 1000 mg per day, then another 10 days – 500 mg per day. Total course of therapy is reduced to 17 days.

If prostatitis is acute, then urologists recommend administering Tavanic intravenously for the first 2 weeks and then switch to taking the drug in the form of tablets. If prostatitis is chronic, then the whole course of treatment can take only pills without resorting to intravenous administration of the drug.

Unfortunately, antibacterial therapy of prostatitis is long, since this organ is very poorly supplied with blood, and therefore various drugs are practically not included in it. Tavanic has good permeability and enters the prostate in large quantities compared with other antibiotics, for example, with widespread Doxycycline.

Tavanic for cystitis

Tavanic with chlamydia

Chlamydia is caused by an intracellular microorganism, chlamydia. Since the bacterium lives in its own cells, it is rather difficult to destroy it. That is why the treatment of genital chlamydia includes taking Tavanic 500 mg per day for 10 days.

There is a pulmonary form of chlamydia that causes pneumonia. In this case, intravenous administration of tavanic is shown at a dosage of 500 mg per day for 7–10 days.

Tavanic with ureaplasmosis

Ureaplasma affects the mucous membranes of the genital and urinary tract. Therefore, the treatment of ureaplasmosis with the help of Tavanic involves taking the drug in a dose of 500 mg 1 time per day for 7–10 days. However, this treatment regimen will be effective if the ureaplasma exists for a relatively short period of time.

If ureaplasma persists for a long time in the body, then doctors recommend a two-step scheme, the effectiveness of which is higher:
1 step – Take Clarithromycin 250 mg 2 times a day for 1 week.
2 step – Take Tavanic 500 mg 1 time per day for 1 week.

To date, the overwhelming majority of reviews of Tavanic are positive. This is due to the fact that the drug is highly effective, and people feel relief already the next day after the start of the drug. People who took Tavanic, note a number of advantages of this drug, to which they relate to high efficiency (symptoms of diseases go away within a short period of time), a reliable and time-tested manufacturer "Sanofi aventis", as well as convenience of reception, as a rule, only once a day. The combination of these benefits gives people the opportunity to evaluate the drug positively, and leave relevant reviews about it.

Despite the overall positive assessment of Tavanic associated with the above benefits, people note the presence of disadvantages of the drug. Thus, according to patients, negative qualities of the drug include contraindications, a rather wide range of side effects and high cost. Most often, people noted the development of confusion and dizziness, which, however, took place independently and did not require special treatment. Also, patients taking Tavanic reported the development of severe pain in the muscles, joints, and tendons, which so hampered the movement that it was difficult for a person to get out of bed. However, these side effects are perceived by people solely as cons of a generally good and effective drug. From the point of view of patients, the main quality of the drug should be its effectiveness, and side effects are an inevitable price to pay for it.

However, there are few negative reviews about Tavanic, which are associated with a strong severity of side effects. In such situations, people believed that the side effect is so unbearable that it outweighs the good therapeutic effect.

Tavanic with prostate – reviews

Tavanic, according to patients, turned out to be an effective drug for the treatment of bacterial prostatitis, especially if the disease was caused by conditionally pathogenic flora, including staphylococci or ureaplasmas. However, the drug is effective only in cases where a person does have bacterial prostatitis. Men noted that, with the use of Tavanic, pains quickly disappeared and the state of the prostate gland returned to normal in principle.

However, the effectiveness of tavanic is combined with the development of serious side effects, such as:

  • tremor
  • tachycardia
  • constraint of movement
  • vagueness in the head.

The presence of these side effects in the treatment of Tavanic was reported by almost all men who used the drug.

In addition to the positive reviews of Tavanic for the treatment of prostatitis, there are also negative ones, which are due to the lack of effect from the use of the drug. The lack of effect of taking Tavanic may be due to the insensitivity of the bacteria to the drug or an incorrect diagnosis.

Doctors reviews

Reviews from doctors of various specialties (urologists, gynecologists, general practitioners and otolaryngologists) about Tavanic in the majority of cases are positive. This is due to the fact that the drug has a high clinical efficacy, and therefore is able to quickly destroy the pathogenic infectious agent and eliminate the symptoms of the disease.

However, doctors prefer to prescribe Tavanic rather cautiously, because the drug has an impressive range of side effects that cause a huge number of complaints from patients.

Tavanic is an original drug that is manufactured by a corporation. "Sanofi-aventis" in developed countries of Europe. The drug is imported to Russia, so its retail price depends on the cost of the wholesale batch, the cost of transportation and storage, as well as the amount of tax charges. In principle, the difference between a more expensive and cheaper drug does not exist.

However, if the cost of the drug in any outlet is significantly lower than the average in urban pharmacies, then you should not buy it, because most likely it is a fake. Drugs called Tavanic appear from time to time in pharmacies, which are two times cheaper than the average price on the pharmaceutical market. For example, a package of Tavanic 500 mg – 5 tablets is offered at a price of 500 – 600 rubles, against an average pharmacy price of 1000 – 1200 rubles. In this case, it is likely that a fake is offered at a very low price. Approximate prices for Tavanic in Russian pharmacy chains are shown in the table:
